A day fit for a King

In case Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge ever wonders what it was like the day he was born, he need look no further than this little blog. The same day the future king of England was born, my mom and I headed to London for a tour of the city. We caught the tube at Snaresbrook in the hopes it would make the ride a bit more bearable. The weather was well past 90 degrees that day making the underground ride borderline inhumane. With the exception of a few places, there is no air conditioning in England.

Luckily, my mom didn’t die of heat stroke and we made it to Trafalgar Square. You can barely make out the fountain in the background of this picture. Then it was on to the Red Bus Tour (the same one we took when the Carlsson’s visited). Despite the heat and humidity, it was a beautiful day with clear blue skies. We decided to grab lunch at the base of the London Eye – why not go full blown tourist, right? Big L even ordered her first plate of fish and chips though we substituted the chips for mushy peas. Remember, nothing tastes as good as skinny feels.

We had hoped the river cruise would provide some relief from the heat but instead, it left us with swampy upper dumpers and a faint suntan. Check out my rockin’ mom, by the way. This ol’ dame turns 60 in a couple months but she is looking fit as ever. You go girl! I’m thankful she passed on some good genes to me even if my penchant for sarcasm isn’t always appreciated by others.

Knowing Duchess Kate was in labor, we kept an eye out for news of Prince George’s arrival but didn’t see anything. Here’s my mom hanging off the edge of her seat in excitement. Or maybe she’s singing the Wheels on the Bus; I can’t be sure.

Fully committing to the tourist theme for the day, we had afternoon tea at the National Gallery before snapping some obligatory telephone booth photos. As soon as we arrived home, we found out the Prince had been born just as we were leaving London. So dear Prince George, in case you were wondering… on the day you were born, it was hotter than Hades and here are the photos to prove it.
